This was our first stay at Bear Mountain Lodge and we loved it! We loved it so much, we were lucky enough to be able to extend our stay. The small details like the welcome basket, stocked fridge, personal welcome sign, (and so much more ) really made this place so great. We were so impressed by how clean this place was. It seriously looks like someone scrubbed every little crack and crevice of this place with a tooth brush. We can’t wait to come back!k_wagsss 7/07/2019
We have just completed our 4th stay at the Bear Mountain Lodge. We keep coming back again and again to this place. There is just so much about this place that we like. We are partial to the smallest room called the Bear Room. We like it because of the privacy of the Hot Tub on the balcony. We love watching the stars at night which one can see all too easily. The Bear Mountain Lodge always feels like home to us. In fact we've decorated our home much like this lodge.
Sherri the housekeeper is an exceptional person. Very warm and inviting and treats us like old time friends. During this stay we ventured out to the other property called the Bear Meadows Lodge where we were fortunate to meet Jim Meade, the owner. Jim was kind enough to give us a tour of all the rooms at Bear Meadows. We found all four of the accommodations to be large at well laid out. The views from the deck of each room looking out onto the countryside were spectacular. We were humbled when Jim asked us to sit with him on the porch and he showed us his soon to be released book on his creating the Bear Mountain and Bear Meadows Lodges. We'll certainly be looking forward to purchasing his new book as soon as it is released.
It's not just the Bear Mountain Lodge that appeals so much to us. Its is the town of Wellsboro as well. We love walking the main street and shopping in the inviting shops in town. We are also big fans of the The Steak House on Main Street. But more about this in my next review.
Wellsboro, Pa is only a two hour and twenty minute drive from our home in Rochester. We can escape to Wellsboro in very quick time but feel like we are hundreds of miles away. The country side is beautiful and the people are great. I'm all ready to go back for my fifth visit.
Thank you Jim, Sherri and Amanda for all that you do to make this our very special get away place.
One of the best lodges we have experienced. This was our second time visiting the Wellsboro (Grand Canyon of PA) area & this lodge, and you could not find a nicer place so convenient to all the area attractions. When you arrive, the room is so welcoming with candles lit, soft music playing, and goodies in a basket. The beds are comfy, the heated bathroom floor very nice, and the room is very clean. The view from the private deck and hot tub is beautiful. The hosts are too sweet. We hope to visit regularly and we are bringing our bicycles next time. Enjoy! D & Jabcdlw 5/04/2019
We stayed in the Canyon room which was small, but right off the large, beautiful living room which felt like an extension of our room. The bathroom was large. The gas fireplace in our room and private hot tub on the deck made it feel extra special. We brought our own snacks and games, but didn't need to, because our room and the kitchen were well stocked with k-cups, juice, fruit, granola bars, oatmeal and pretzels to provide for our breakfast and evening munchies. Even though it was a cool spring weekend with some rain, we spent the day hiking, and then enjoyed the evening relaxing at the lodge. With all the attention to detail, we would definitely recommend a stay at Bear Mountain Lodge to anyone who wants a relaxing get-away.JulieAnnaAdventures 4/18/2019
Beautiful place, really affordable for all of the amenities, comfy, cozy, and welcoming. Felt like I was at home, but also had tons of privacy. Hosts were amazing-only saw them at checkout, but they were also very accommodating if we needed them, super friendly in the morning, and wonderful!ionahdance 1/05/2019

Our room was excellent, large but cozy and comfortable! Housekeeping was great and we loved the quite and peaceful surroundings. We came to hike and ride bikes and explore the Wellsboro town. Loved the Bonus Bucks we received for each night. So much fun to deceide how to spend!TripAdvisor R. 1/05/2019
My husband and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary with a long weekend in Wellsboro, PA. The accommodations at the lodge were above and beyond our expectations. We stayed in the Wilderness Suite which was roomy, clean, and perfect for a couple’s getaway. We loved the quiet location, the stocked fridge, and friendliness of the hosts. Having access to the kitchen in the common area was helpful as we were hiking quite a bit in the gorge and appreciated the granola and beverages. We have decided we will be making a weekend stay at the Bear Mountain Lodge a tradition. Highly recommend!Jessica C. 12/14/2018
We stayed here just for a small getaway after we got married, it was so cozy and a nice place to just relax! Can’t wait to go back! We enjoyed one of the nice rooms with a private hot tub! It was very welcoming with directions on how to get to room and even got to keep a nice bag. Upon going in our room they had the tv and fireplace going!kelly h. 12/12/2018
After a fun day of hiking the PA Grand Canyon, we arrived to a self check-in: the key was waiting for us on the door with a welcome note and a jute bag filled with information about the area. As we walked in, we were greeted by flickering electric candles, quiet jazz music, a fresh rose, and a Keurig full of water and ready for brewing. The place was clean, comfortable and beautiful. It was a perfect getaway for us: we had been seeking quiet refreshing, and we found it at the Bear Meadows Wilds Room. We lit our fireplace, put on the comfortable robes, and relaxed in the private hot tub on our back patio. Then we brewed some coffee and had a chance to talk and reconnect in this very remote location, way up in the woods and mountains of Tioga County. We spent time walking the quaint streets of Wellsboro and visiting many of the locally-owned/run shops. Definitely check out Pop's Culture, a game store run by a husband and wife team. Also, the burgers at the GasLight Bar and Grill were amazing. During our entire stay at Bear Meadows, we didn't see another soul, and even though the other rooms seemed to be booked, we barely heard anything from our neighbors. I highly recommend Bear Meadows Lodge to anyone seeking quiet relaxation.Fearless54267447587 11/14/2018
Just stayed one night. The room was large with everything you could hope for and I could even figure out how to use the TV. It was quiet as night came on as you are just off a busy road. There is no breakfast served but there are muffins, drinks, granola bars, fruit, etc for breakfast so you won't go hungry. The place is large and clean and I would recommend.Caribbeancrazy243 10/13/2018
What a fantastic place! This is the first my wife and I had ever stayed at a B&B and was very pleasantly surprised. We loved the 2 room suite we had. It was so nice to relax in the living area after a day at the PA Grand Canyon. The snack basket and mini-fridge with few assorted beverages was an unexpected nice touch.TripAdvisor R. 10/05/2018
My parents wanted to see the Pennsylvania grand canyon, so we quickly planned a road trip. We rented two rooms at the lodge and were very pleased. It is beautiful. The "self-check in" was a little out of the ordinary, but worked out just fine. (Read your instructions for check in before you arrive.)TripAdvisor R. 10/05/2018

We recently stayed here for 2 nights. It is set up in a wooded, semi-secluded mountain area near the pine creek gorge, also called the grand canyon of the east. Wellsboro, pa, is a quaint old-time village 6 miles from the lodge. The lodge is a b & b; one room has a hot tub on the deck; one a whirlpool tub in room. Owner was very sweet.bertarthur 9/26/2018

This place was awesome. We never have been to this part of the state and found this place through our internet search for places to stay. It was very relaxing and clean and comfortable. Jim and his crew were very enjoyable to talk with and made you feel very welcome to be in their home. Highly recommend Bear Mountain if planning a trip to the PA Grand Canyon. Location of Bear Mountain makes it easy to get to all the sites around the Grand Canyon. The rooms are very cozy and love the mountain décor. Provided snacks and drinks was a nice touch as well as the welcome sign upon entering the lodge.Peter F. 9/14/2018
On September 8th, my wife and I decided to drive to Wellsboro, PA to see the Grand Canyon of PA (which was very beautiful to see) for our anniversary. I did a little research on places to stay in the area, and Bear Mountain Lodge kept popping up as a great place. This was the first time we would be staying at a smaller B & B type location as opposed to a bigger hotel. So I decided to give it a shot. When I went to book a room on their site, I did notice they had a two day minimum on the weekends. However, they did have place to be added to a waiting list. So I emailed them and told them I would be there on Saturday and would be interested in 1 night if there were any openings. They got right back to me, and I booked the room.
When I arrived, my wife and I were very impressed. The only thing that was a bit weird was when I went to check-in. When I went up the stairs to what seemed like the entrance, I could not find anyone. All of the doors were open, but the place was empty. I did notice 3 very nice Bear Mountain Lodge Bags (which they give every guest) on the counter in the kitchen as you walked in. One had our name on it with the key to our room. So I told my wife to come up from the car, and we checked out our room.
It was very clean, had many nice little touches and was decorated in a rustic decor. I could tells my wife was impressed. The open area or living area was also very nice. There were snacks in the kitchen as well as snacks in the room and a refrigerator with some drinks. Our room has a Keurig with a nice selection also. We stayed in the "Canyon Room", and it had a nice bathroom, a deck with a two person hot tube, and a fire place. There was even a sign wishing my wife and I a "Happy Anniversary" The remote for the fireplace must have been broken, but as soon as I called, someone was there to fix the problem.
The deck in our room faced the woods and was very private. My wife and I enjoyed lounging in the hot tub for over an hour that evening after checking out the area all day. On our bed was a book that many of the past guests had signed. We enjoyed reading it as well and adding out experience in it. We were hoping to see a bear walking by as we unwound in the hot tub, but did not. Other guest has mentioned they did see bears in the past. In our welcome packet, we also found $10.00 off for many of the local restaurants. So we used towards our dinner that night. The room was in the $200 range, But, when you add in the things you were given as far as snacks and $10.00 towards food, it was not bad at all.
The lodge was very quiet and relaxing. It was almost like nobody else was there and the place was all ours. All of the other rooms were rented, but we barely saw any other of the guests. The pictures you see of this place are nice. However, it is even nicer in person in my opinion. If you are looking to tune out and unwind, I highly recommend this place.
We loved our cosy room and outdoor hot tub! The snacks and drinks were a nice touch, as was the ‘welcome’ chalk board. If you are looking for clean, charming accommodations near great hiking and town (there’s a remarkable cultural center with live performances in Wellsboro!), Bear Lodge is perfect.TripAdvisor R. 9/05/2018
